Springfield Republican writer Donnie Moorhouse is one of the most familiar names in local press. He has been the Springfield area authority on arts and entertainment for as long as I can remember.
This is for good reason.
You see that last sentence standing alone? That’s a trick Moorhouse pulls online. He doesn’t fog up his opinion, he’d rather take a stance and tell you exactly how it is. His knack for drawing readers in with an illustrative opening is also a nice technique. Tone wise, he adapts to the setting of his subject but not so much as to abandon his own voice. Recent reviews of Springsteen and Green Day both capture the mood right away, quoting stage banter and setting up the story high energy. I think he’s one of the great ones in the area because his tone is always on par, never cheeky enough to make me cringe and stop reading.
